In Matthew 22:37-38 Jesus said, “Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and with all your mind and all your strength. This is the first and greatest commandment.”
At Batavia UMC, we believe that loving God is the most important thing we can do. We are called to gather together in worship, asking God to transform our hearts, souls, minds, and to give us strength and wisdom. We believe loving God means becoming passionate worshipers and devoted students of the word.
In John 13:34 Jesus said, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another."
We believe that as Christians we are to sacrificially and unconditionally love one another the way Jesus loves us. This means we are to demonstrate God's life transforming love by being accepting, forgiving, encouraging, and supportive of one another.
In 1 Peter 4:10 it is written, "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms".
We believe that we are called to serve within our church, in our community, and throughout the world. We are called to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ through acts of compassion and service, and ministries of education and outreach.
