You may have noticed the restrooms in Newton Hall (just below the sanctuary) are out of order. Unfortunately, they will be for a while. After inspections and attempted repairs by plumbers, sewer service and the City of Batavia, we have learned that our sewer pipes date back to 1905 and are clay pipes. The pipes are sagging and causing the water to move slowly. The City of Batavia is planning to survey the main and lateral lines all along Batavia Ave, from Houston to Water Street, maybe further. This work begins the first week of October. It will take a week or two to complete the survey, then the results wll be analyzed. The City of Batavia will then work on a plan to best correct the problems and divvy up the responsibilities. Sound complicated? It is! Hopefully our Newton Hall restrooms will be up and running again in November.

Playground Marathon Continues |
|
The Trustees are happy to announce that while construction has not yet begun, work is being done on our new playground. Mike Rossell, veteran marathon runner, is keeping a strong and steady pace through this new and challenging course involving Zoning Department meetings, Engineer planning reviews, Planning Commission meetings, and Historical Commission meetings. Mike has a new pair of track shoes and expects to finalize the drawings soon. He is uncertain about the estimated time to finish this marathon as the finish line moves from time to time, but great progress is being made! |

New Building & Playground Update |
|
Nearly a year ago Batavia United Methodist Church secured a mortgage for the purchase of the Hubbard Office Interior Building just north of our small community building on Water Street. During this past year preliminary drawings have been completed for the renovation and facade improvement for both the Hubbard Building and Community Building. Currently our project manager Mike Rossell is working through zoning issues with the city of Batavia which must be resolved before we move forward with the project. As we await resolution regarding the future Family Life Christian Activity Center (we’ll come up with a name later), the Board of Trustees is moving ahead with the construction of a Children’s Play Area in the gravel lot located between the parking lot entrance and the Community Building. The transformation of this area from an unsightly gravel and weed bed to a beautifully landscaped, enclosed, play area complete with tricycle track, play-set and children’s story telling corner will be a wonderful addition to our campus. Funds for the renovation are coming from our Parents’ Day Out Ministry and limited Capital Funds. Work on this project is scheduled to begin in late May. |
